Building Wellness, Together

What is SMARTfit?

SMARTfit is a dual-task training technology that allows users to pair physical movement with cognitive training, building stronger minds and bodies. This technology, pioneered by our partners at SMARTfit Inc. with the Pacific Neuroscience Institute, is transforming brain health by creating & strengthening neural pathways through dual-task (physical + cognitive) gamification. The cutting-edge technology improves cognitive abilities such as memory, attention, processing speed, and executive function—key abilities required by everybody regardless of age or ability. Backed by science and clinical research, SMARTfit offers a proven, natural way to maintain a healthy brain and body.

While the world is jumping on the bandwagon with solutions ranging from medications to diets and supplements, SMARTfit’s stance is that having a strong mind and strong body working in tandem creates the best quality of life for us all; brain health training must go hand-in-hand with strength training.

Why The Y?

The Y is committed to strengthening community, that’s our cause. With chronic diseases and cognitive decline on the rise, we want to stand in the gap, offering creative community-based solutions to prevention. Through our partnership with Pacific Neuroscience Institute, we have installed two walls of SMARTfit technology in our facility – the only YMCA in California or the Western US to have these tools.

Our staff have trained with both SMARTfit and PNI and are ready to serve our community, starting as young as age 3! Through individual, small group, or large group training, individuals play games that challenge you on both cognitive and physical levels based on the developmental level right for you. Our instructors choose challenges that leverage both competition and collaboration to make the experience of training your mind and body simultaneously FUN.

What do experts say?

“At the Pacific Institute of Neuro Technology, we have found that SMARTfit can provide a turnkey solution to deliver a variety of training activities such as strength, balance, agility, mobility, and neuromotor all in one through a single technology. At its core, SMARTfit’s multimodal training incorporates scalable cognitive load through its turnkey programming for individuals at different stages of function offering both physical and cognitive engagement in different types of activities and we are seeing people have fun.” – Ryan Glatt, MS, CPT, MES, NBC-HWC, Senior Brain Health Coach & FitBrain Director, Pacific Neuroscience Institute Foundation.

Kinotek

Many of us learn about our body the hard way—when we get hurt. Using Kinotek’s modern advanced technology, we can assess the way your body moves by creating a platform that delivers accurate metrics in a fast, portable, affordable and immersive way.

Great for members feeling pain, limited range of movement, athletes and everyone in between, Kinotek uses a 3D camera to detect compensations in movement. A coach will review your results with you so that you can decide the next steps to better movement health!

Santa Monica YMCA Members: $25
Non-YMCA Members: $35
Assessments last about 15 minutes and include a review with a coach, along with a copy of your assessment to take home with you!

InBody Assessment

An InBody test provides a detailed look at what makes up you. When you step on a scale, you can’t see how much muscle or fat you have — you see a number with no context. InBody is an advanced body composition analyzer that provides quick, accurate and noninvasive testing. Its technology leads the field of bioelectrical impedance analysis, and it has a 98-percent correlation with gold-standard body composition analysis methods like DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry).

InBody Test Breakdown

InBody’s medical-grade body composition analyzers use four pillars of technology to provide accurate, precise direct segmental measurement multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (DSM-MFBIA) extensively validated to gold-standard methods. Using only 100 percent impedance, results are accurate, personalized, instant and reflect your unique body composition:

Understand Your Weight

When you measure your weight, what are you actually seeing? Weight alone is a poor indicator of health because it does not distinguish fat from muscle. The InBody divides weight into water, muscle and fat.

Body Composition

Your total body weight is broken down into skeletal muscle mass and fat mass. This gives us an insight into your body composition.

Manage Your Fat

Understand your distribution of body fat mass through segmental fat analysis. See each segment’s weight and percentage to track changes in fat. The visceral fat level reveals the fat content surrounding your organs.

Measure Your Strength

How much muscle do you have in your arms? Your legs? With the InBody test, discover how many pounds of muscle you have distributed in each portion of your body. See which exercises bring out the best results.

Monitor Your Water

Monitor the changes in your ECW/TBW ratio for water retention or edema. The normal ratio of ECW/TBW is between 0.360 and 0.390. The ideal ratio is 0.380.

Set Your Goals

Measuring your body-fat percentage allows you to better gauge your health, allowing you to achieve goals and bring that percentage down.

Track Your Progress

Knowing how much fat and muscle you have is only the beginning. With your baseline set, taking the InBody test periodically allows you to monitor and track the changes in your body.
